When your cooling system stops working, you may be wondering if your situation is bad enough to call an emergency HVAC repair expert. Having a cooling problem is never fun, but sometimes it is difficult to tell if the situation is bad enough to warrant calling an emergency service. The following are some instances when emergency HVAC service is necessary.

Emergency HVAC: When to Call the Experts

  • Extreme Heat. When your HVAC system suddenly stops working, it doesn’t take long for the temperature in your home to become extremely hot depending on the where you live. Young children, pets or elderly family members are especially susceptible to high temperatures, and you will need to call in an emergency HVAC technician right away.
  • Safety Concerns. If your HVAC unit suddenly starts making unusual noises, it could indicate a problem with the compressor or motor. Hissing noises could be the result of a refrigerant leak that needs to be addressed right away. Call an emergency HVAC company immediately if you are worried about the safety of your family or home.
  • Ice On Your Air Conditioning Unit. If your HVAC system doesn’t seem to be cooling as well as it normally does, it could be due to ice buildup. This could be due to your unit working overtime in very hot, humid temperatures, but it could also signal a malfunction. Before calling in the experts, try to defrost any buildup of ice on your air conditioner by shutting off the unit and operating the fan to melt the ice. If your HVAC unit returns to full function, you may be out of the woods, but if it freezes up again, it is time to call in the emergency HVAC experts before damage can occur.
  • Tripped Circuit Breaker. If your air conditioning unit begins to frequently trip your home’s circuit breaker, there could be an issue with your electrical panel or the AC unit itself, and it is wise to have it checked out right away.
